Workshop Outline

Participants will spend time freeing up with some mark making exercises. We will use botanical references to explore the idea of painting negatively to build our composition. Participants will then use the techniques learned to compose a larger painting.

Materials Required

  • 1 small canvas 40cm x 40cm

  • 1 larger canvas of your choice (no larger than 100cm x 100cm)

  • ACRYLIC PAINTS  in a variety of colours plus white

  • Drawing media such as crayons, oil pastels, pencils

  • Mark making tools such as old credit cards, tile scrapers, old comb

  • Paintbrushes of your choice but I recommend short taklon paintbrushes in varying widths. (Officeworks sells a set of 3 brushes 25mm, 50mm and 80mm width for approx. $15)

  • Water spray bottle, rags, an old tray to use as a palette (I have some spare trays if you don’t have one)
